I’ve had this machine from new since 2004 and never had any issues. On returning from a two week holiday, the kitchen had this real musty smell that was emanating from the washing machine. I have ran soda crystals, beech, vinegar etc through the machine numerous times which as had little effect. I then stripped out every fill and drain hose including the drain pump,filter, fill system cleaning all until spotless – still no joy.
I then read your article concerning the plastic tubs and have the following question I would like to ask.
Would it be better for me to strip the tub apart, clean the inside of the plastic tub and the outer side of the drum rather then use a cleaner ? If so, what seals would I need to replace on re-assembly and what problems may I encounter. 😀

What type of detergents do you use, liquid or powder/tablets, what temperatures do you wash at, are you in a soft water area?
The work involved in stripping that machine down is not easy and not advisable for your problem.

Hi
Carry out several 90oc washes and do a 90oc wash at least every 2 weeks using bio Ariel green box powder. using liquids and low temp washes are the cause of your problems.

Mainly liquid tablets, 40-50 degree wash. hard water area.

As above. Do plenty of 90 degree washes, a little bit of lemon juice in with it can help

Lemon juice is an old wives tale I’m afraid Andy. 😉

Thanks for the links. Have been called out to literally hundreds of these problems over the last few years, safe to say there isn’t just one cause of smelly machines, half the time the customers don’t listen to us about using the correct detergent or the correct dosage ,
Manufactures themselves should do more in my opinion by explaining the fact that the modern day machine uses far less water. Would be handy to be able to put up a list of detergents that should be used but I can see there being legal/ advertising problems there
