Just replaced the above part on my 15 year old Bosch machine – first time I’ve ever had to open her up!

The right hand spring appears to have failed due to not having a nylon bush like the 2 on the other side and eventually rubbed through on the chassis.

Genuine part was sourced locally for £13 and fitted fairly easily – it took more time to pull the machine out to do the work.

Method is to remove the top (2 screws under plastic trim and then hinges back) and then remove the back panel, several normal screws and 4 x T30 Torx fixings.

Then, to be able to pull the drum up enough to hook on the new spring you need to undo the shock at the bottom which is a 13mm bolt going into a captive nut.

Hope this helps someone in the future!

did you check the shock absorbers?

more often than not worn shocks cause the drum to bounce wildly and over stress the spring

Davew, cheers for the reply… well I did and they weren’t leaking but then I had nothing to compare them with… any way of testing or how should they behave? when compressed it (very) slowly moved back out again but I didn’t have to use much force…

if you say it moved out slowly

i am assuming you had it unbolted at the bottom and gravity was pulling it down ( well gone if thats the case )

you have to put force on these to get them to move. new ones you would have to put the at least same amount of force as lifting a pint ( most times more)

if you push down on the drum from the top and let go in quick succession you should not be able to bounce the drum as the shock should resist this. Just like a car when you push the wing down
