Can anyone give me any guidance on this machine, an LG WM1285 THD washing machine, i’ve never worked on an LG before never mind a direct drive one, customer reckons the bearings are done, its only 2 years old, any help appreciated.

I’d have a look at it first before taking the customer’s diagnosis Seamy 😉

These are prone to all sorts of noises, we even get them with coins in the pump which sound horrendous.

If the bearings have gone it’s a drum out job, you can get them seperatley though.

a bearing kit is the preferred option….as there has been a mod to the outer tub which means the original direct drive motor does not fit the new tub. It involves 6 new parts and at a cost too.

Easy to see if old or new(regards to mod) Old -the drum pulley is 3 inches deep..new drum pulley is < 2 inches deep.

With new pulley, if ordering tub rear, everything is interchangeable…with old it will cost a fortune, therefore do the bearing kit!

There are mods to change the front weights and the feet to quieten down these appliances too, and the pumps are poor…standard PMP999 uni askol will fit.

I’ve been to look at this machine, there is an excessive noise off it, but the drum bearings sound o.k, no play in drum, no noise from pump, i found the pulley to be kinda wobbly, though not loose & during spin the vibration caused a lot of shaking also the shocks seem to be low & needing replacement,
A few questions my learned friends:-
is the pulley part of motor?
    is it easily replaced?
are ther modifications to the machine that will reduce the vibration & noise levels?
I’ll try & contact LG, but i don’t have a spares account with them, do they provide technical advice to trade?

There’s a few modifications to these, including:

Shock absorber replacement (new part number, sometimes works)
Cabinet anti rattle things (that don’t work)
New front counterweight and fixings (that doesn’t work)
New feet (softer rubber I believe – makes it worse in some cases).

I think you get the picture 😉

Personally, I’d try the shocks and see if it helps, I can check the part tommorow for you, let me know eh ?

The counter weight does work if used in conjunction with new feet….two types of feet though, 1 for concrete and 1 for wood, the real floor that is not a laminate false floor.

We do several with new shocks, they’ve been modified too, and we also have been to one where the suspension pin bracket?holes had worn oval shaped, causing the vibration.
