ParticipantHi
My washing machine is running at a hot water temperature all the time, irrespective of the temperature that is selected. On occasion the clothes have come out steaming. This occurs even when rinsing. The machine runs through it’s cycles properly and is fine in every other way. It is plumbed into a cold water feed, so it is not drawing hot water from the house supply.
Pointers to the potential fault would be greatly received as would the potential cost of fixing it, indeed is it worth doing at all. Many thanks

sounds like the hot water is going into machine on rinses
select a rinse programme and see if the water going in is hot. if yes the you should have it connected to cold watermake sure you have cold water feed to the machine if its got 1 pipe. if it has 2 pipes make sure hot and cold are on the correct connections

Thank you for your response Dave, but as stated in the original post the machine is connected to a cold water supply. I have proved this by a) Running the washing machine when there was no hot water in the house and still getting hot clothes out and b) running the water out of the mains where the washer connects for a considerable amount of time and getting no hot out of it. Additionally the problem has only surfaced in the last couple of months, being connected to the same source of water in all that time, makes me think that the issue is with the washing machine and not the supply.

Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HDI beleive so as the conditioner disapears when the wash has finished, and apart from the heating problem the clothes smell and feel “washed”

this still sound weird
the heater only come on during the wash cycle. the rinses do not last long enough for cold water to get as hot as you say.
so in my opinion there is one of 2 thing happening
1 you are mistaken and it is pulling hot water. you can check this by watching machine go through cycle and see if the soap draw get hot
2 it is not draining the wash water out so the hot water is still in the machine at the endthink you need to set a wash and watch it. wait till it pumps out at the end of the wash and refills cold. check it is cold and if so does not get hot while it is rinsing

I have now had the time to stanover the machine whilst it was on a 40c wash and this is what hapened
1 – The washer was filled with clothes and tablets and conditioner put in the appropriate slots in the drawer, it was then started.2- The machine filled in the right hand drawer with cold water, turned for a bit then filled with more cold water to wash the tablets. It then stood for a few moments whilst the heater was warming the water. I could hear it warming like you can a kettle. It then commenced it’s wash cycle
The water entering the machine was cold cause I felt it, it was not drawing hot water from the doemstic supply
3- The pump then started to empty the washer of hot dirty soapy water. I know it was this cause I looked at and felt it as it excited the machine pipe to go down the drain.
4 – The icon on the fromn then changed to rinse and the machine started to draw cold water(again I checked this with my hands)via the right hand drawer of the tray. It stopped and then stood for a short while making the same sound as before when it was heating the water. When it started to turn the glass on the door was warm. I apprecate this heat could have been left from the wash cycle but I don’t think it was due to the noise the machine was making.
5 – The machine then went through a number of rinse cycles all the water drawn was cold and was then heated up – it was cold to the touch on entering the machine and warm warm to the touch on exciting the machine.
6 – The machine finished doing he wash nd the clothes were warm to the touch.
So in summary; during the wash the machine is not drawing any hot water, is emptying as it should between cycles (Least I believe it is) and is heating the water between every cycle, it must be cause of the noise it makes as well as the water being warm wen pumped out
Your thoughts gents wil be much appreciated

It defies logic and I’ve never ever heard of this fault before but the only conclusion I can come up with is that the heater relay on the board is jammed on. Solution would involve replacing the control unit (aka PCB)…..costly. 🙁

Dont these machines suffer with the wires feeding the heater getting burned out, and you need to replace the thermistor loom., as this gets burnt through also? And could it also be a faulty pressure switch?

I also agree with Martin’s conclusion, that it could be a stuck relay, but am wondering why the element has not burned itself out during a spin cycle, as there is not a lot of water left behind to keep it cool enough, for that amount of time between the next fill?

Searching for an answer to my problem I read this and it sounds exactly the same as mine. I have a Bosch Excel WAE 32464UK, 8 years old and no problems until recently. It has been heating the rinse water on some cycles and now, last week, heated up a 60C wash to much more than that before rinsing. It felt way beyond a boil wash!
What I really need to know is, what the fault is, how much would it be to fix and am I better off buying a new washing machine?
Thanks in advance for any advice you can give 🙂
