ParticipantHello all,
I have a Hotpoint WDD960 washer dryer. The dryer has stopped working. There are no error codes, and the programme completes, just no heat is generated and the clothes stay wet.I have read through a few forums and sounds like a thermostat or the dryer element. I have a multimeter but no idea where to locate those components. I have enclosed a picture, can anyone help?
Regards

Power off first!
The thermostats and elements are located under the rectangular aluminium box at the left of you picture,..make a note of where the wired are connected before removal…
If its the element that is faulty, then you will. Red to undo all the bolts/screws around the rectangular cover….

I have taken the dryer apart and used a multimeter. Below are the photos of what i found. Is it the thermostat that is open that is causing the problem? If so where is the best place to get a new one. Are there any shops that would stock this?

That is a NTC (negative temperature coefficient) and you cannot test for an open circuit as such..
You need to put your meter on the ohms scale to test, and lower the end in to hot water, if the reading changes then its ok..if not you can get a new one from here

Is it just the one sensor its fitted with?

Also it looks like you have one meter probe touching the outer plastic?

Heater should have roughly 43k ohms reading, so yours is ok
NTC should read around 26k ohms at 20c

You should alsomhave a thermal fuse fitted, easily identifiabl as it has a heatprrof tubing around it (usually yellow) test this also using continuity setting that you have at the 6 o clock setting on your meter (you should hear a beep)!

I will check the NCT shortly. Where are the thermostats located? Thanks for your help so far.
Could the NCT be the cause?

On the dryer unit that’s the only sensor.

The NTC is the thermostat, it just works differntly to a normal thermostat..
If that checks out using thenwater test, then its highly likely its the one shot thermal fuse inside the sleeving… Just test using beep setting on the meter.

Don’t think this machine has an external TOC on the dryer element, I think it is inside the element the same as the wash heater. 😥
Certainly cannot see one listed on Partfinder.

Yes youre correct, it is indeed fitted to the heater itself, although in the service manual under error code F15 says check the One shot stat..?

The WDD960 has a heater TOC, the WDD960.C & WDD960.CA do not.
