    Hi folks,

We have a domestic free-standing fridge-freezer in our kitchen room, BEKO CG960 (serial MY114419), which we’ve had since new about 12 years ago.

A few days ago we noticed it had stopped cooling in both the upper fridge and lower freezer compartments. It still had power as could hear the compressor running (humming sound, but not usual liquid gurgling sounds). The thermostatic was working as we could turn it up-down which could hear the compressor stopping and starting.

Thinking it was broken we quickly salvaged most food to a nearby relative and began Google’ing for a new machine.

Meanwhile switched it off to allow complete defrosting but heard a lot of trickling sounds like water going through pipes for a few hours – I presume this was coolant liquid condensing and draining down inside all the pipes, etc. After a few hours switched it back on and it now seems to be working fine again over last 2 days.

My query is what caused this fault, for example was it a coolant circulation blockage somewhere in the system or maybe compressor fault (sign of imminent failure)?

The only problem we’ve had was about 10 years ago when it went wrong (maybe was something similar) – I cannot remember exactly now but an engineer came out and I think replaced the dehumidifier/dryer tube and re-gassed (used a different coolant type than the original R134a cyclopentane).

Any advice or suggestions please from experts who know.

    Kind regards

Sounds lik it may be low on gas.
May not be economical to get it done again though, the fact that its gone low on gas points to a leak somewhere, not too easy to find a leak so a re-gas may be a pointless if its gonna leak again.
