ParticipantI have an AEG Lavamat about 8/9 years old it was a 1600 rpm but for the last year or so has slowed down to about 800/1000rpm I am presuming the pcb is on its way out and no matter how much I clean it, it’s leaving white powder stains on the clothes which it didn’t used to so I am not convinced it’s washing all that well either. I would also need to replace the door seal.
So here is the question is it worth the cost to have someone repair it or considering its age am I looking to replace it.
It doesn’t seem to matter what machine I get, the Bosh I had before it lasted the same time and they were both pricey machines but the Hoover (before the Bosh)lasted the same time!
I cannot rise to the ISE but I saw a Samsung WD 0804 That looked promising. I would value an opinion repair or replace? 😕October 1, 2013 at 7:14 pm #401788electrofix

you dont give a model number but as an engineer i would check following
drain. when machine drains is it draining quickly and completely
motor are the motor brushes worn ( if they have never been changes it is likley this is the fault )

Thank you
It is a an AEG Lavamat L16830 It drains absolutely fine no water left it just doesn’t spin as fast and the clothes are a lot wetter than they used to be. I notice it most in towels and cottons, I had wondered about brushes but sometimes when it should be turning to redistribute the wash there is nothing happening it doesn’t turn, there is an odd buzzing sound but the drum doesn’t move then eventually it goes into a spin. Would the brushes failing have that effect? It would definately be worth doing if it was.

Always worth taking the brushes out to check them

Hi
I will try to find someone who would look at them for me. I remember them being changed in a previous machine but I wouldn’t know where to start now. Are brushes make dependant or do they tend to be universial sizes.
Thanks for the adviceOctober 3, 2013 at 10:25 pm #401792electrofix
