Hi all
I wasn’t able to find a related topic (clearly my UWG-fu is not as good as I’d hoped) so I thought I would post a new one. Hope this is within the rules of UWG.
We have a cooker hood (Hotpoint HE63X) that is a few years old.

I cleaned the stainless steel exterior 2 days ago using a standard kitchen spray and realised that smoke was spiralling out from the control panel. It seems some of the kitchen spray must have dripped in (as the panel was no longer tight) and there was an awful burning smell.
After letting it ‘dry out’ overnight, the fan still seems to be working, but we are too worried to continue using it. We attempted to test out one or two of the buttons today, only to find more smoke coming out.
The bulbs stopped working a while ago but as there is sufficient lighting in the kitchen we never replaced/checked them.
So I was wondering, in this instance, if it would be better to replace the whole hood, or is it possible to replace just the panel/control board?
Any advice would be much appreciated.
Many thanks 🙂
p/s: Rang Hotpoint and they were offering me either a one-off £110 no-fix/no-fee charge (well, a call out fee for £59) or a monthly DD of £13.50 where they repair or replace. Is this worth taking up?
