Hi, I have a 9 year old Hotpoint EW92 Cooker with ceramic hob,
the rear left solarglo twin ring works in single and twin mode but only heats to maximum temperature, and won’t turn down, it will not moderate to lower temperatures, if the knob is turned to any number, it heats to maximum and stays there.
I understand that the thermostat is faulty, is this in the switch, or element part, is it an relatively easy change for competent DIYer?
    Thanks for any help.

It is what is known as the energy regulator, which could also be described as a switch or energy regulator. It is almost 100{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} certainly the cause.

This is the single one, it will look like this but I think it’s a different one:

They are often a pain to get to but, easily enough changed.

If you want the dual zone one, which from what you say I think will be the one you need, just ask and I’ll find it for you.

Correct part number is C00199656. A word of caution though, the replacement will almost certainly be of a different manufacturer to the original and quite often do not come with wiring instructions.

Both sides, hob and all control knobs have to be removed or lifted to access, not the easiest of tasks.

Thank you for the replies, all very helpful, although the hob seems to be behaving itself now.
Is it possible that these regulators develop an intermittent fault that comes and goes?
I will replace if it occurs again.
Again, many thanks for the well informed replies.
