Hi all, first post but i have spent a lot of time hiding and reading!!
I have a problem with our cooker which is an AEG Competence D5701-4-M, product number is 944171390.
While cooking the temperature reached normal but about 30 minutes later i realised the house was full of smoke and the bottom oven seemed to be heating without any thermostat turning it on and off. The element was glowing red, everything was overcooked and we turned it off.
I reset the trip which had not popped, turned it on again and without turning any of the knobs the oven starts to heat up again.
I have removed the thermostat and tried it again, same thing, no buttons pressed or knobs turned and it switches on.
What resistance should i get from the thermostat, want to check before i replace it. What else could it be, is it time for a new oven, this is only a few years old, 2009 i think.

    Thanks in advance,

    mick.

    Re: AEG Competence overheating

The fault more likely to be the oven selector switch broken rather than the thermostat. If the oven selector switch was set to OFF yet the oven heat was ON then it surely has to be at fault?

Power off then look for burnt (welded) together contacts on that switch. :zap:

Looked for that, all look fine which i though was weird. the switches are all pop out type, i wondered if this was part of the fault and the switch is staying live even though its turned off.

Anyway, to be safe we are going to replace the oven. We have lost confidence in it, who knows if its done the same thing when we have been out and could cause a fire.
We are looking at a Candy and a Zanussi at the moment, anyone need any spares for an AEG oven??

    Thanks

    Mick

Only look at a Candy….never buy one. 😉
