ParticipantMy sister has a White Westinghouse ceramic hob Model no 05-800224 – Only full power is available on 3 of the rings. The simmer facility works ok on the 4th ring.
The 4 rotary switches have 9 power levels. I bought a replacement energy regulator locally and it works after a fasion ie- The ring will switch on and off up to mark 5..marks 6-9 no power. The one blue regulator that does work properly has 8 terminals around 3 sides. markings on the base are MSA 312-KS Invensys
The regulator that i bought has markings on the base MPA-V02-SVC Invensys.(coloured cream)
Can you specify the energy regulator that I need that will give me 9 heat levels?Regards Jude

Hi Jude,
We all have to generally identify parts by going model number to part number much like cars and many other things because, parts change. That means that all too often the numbers on them are meaningless.
So far as I can tell this is possibly the switch used but, beyond what’s there, there is no information as the part has changed dramatically over time. That isn’t really surprising as White Westinghouse, Cookers and all the other PABL brands ceased trading in 2008.
The only other use of that part I could find was on a smattering of Belling models.
Whether it would work and fit correctly, I really can’t say because there is extremely limited information to go on.

The energy regulators that I ended up buying as an alternative to MSA 312-KS was MSA V01-C and it worked satisfactorily on each of the 3 faulty ceramic hob rings over the 9 heat settings on the rotary switches. Is there not a trade referance book that would give replacement or alternative energy regulators for ones that are no longer available? It would have saved me a lot of time getting my sisters hob – White Westinghouse 05-800224– back in service.

Not that I have ever seen, no.
Everything is almost entirely part number driven outside of universal spares. Without a valid part number, you can’t find anything.
Do bear in mind that, even with just regulators, there’s scores of different ways to do them, a few dozen companies that make them scattered around the globe and they all have their own internal references. Then on top of that, each manufacturer will use their own reference or part numbers.
On top of that again, they often switch suppliers without notice so the same part can have different references on the parts themselves, be from a different supplier and even look completely different and yet be the same thing functionally.
Problem you have is, only by using a valid part number can you be sure that what part you get will in fact suffice.
