My F/F has just started with a problem, the freezer has defrosted & the fridge doesn`t seem to be very cold.
It started maybe 5 days ago when I heard loud crack noises, the freezer seemed to have a lot of ice inside. About 3 days ago the food in freezer seemed to be going soft & this morning the freezer has defrosted completely leaving big puddles on the floor.
I think it may be 3 years old but I don`t think I have paperwork for it now. The shop do a repair service where I bought it but just wanted to know if it`s worth a repair as it`s £40+ for the call out fee.
I had rewiring work done the day before it stared with problems & I`m wondering if either the dust or the builders moving it could have anything to do with the problem? It doesn`t seem very old to have an issue, I thought this was a good make that would last quite a few years.
Any help appreciated.October 9, 2013 at 3:56 pm #402426kwatt

Possibly a sensor issue but I wouldn’t have thought that likely given the symptoms.
To be honest, I’d advise getting it looked at.
It is unlikely that anything your builders have down would have caused it unless they thumped something they shouldn’t have when they moved the unit.

my advice would be the same, ie get it looked at.
this is a fairly simple appliance, controlled by a thermostat. the freezer isn’t frost free, so it would be fairly easy to tell at a glance where the problem lies.
when its running, is there a noise?
if so, then it’s likely you have a system fault, be it refrigerant level or compressor.
if there’s no noise at all then it could be the thermostat.October 9, 2013 at 8:12 pm #402428inthesticks

I have spoken to an engineer this evening, he is not hopeful when I told him there is no chill there at all now, just wet on the back walls of the fridge. He did say that if they had knocked something I would have smelt gas, doh – then I remembered my son telling me a few days ago he could smell gas. (I know it sound remiss of me but we have had so much turmoil with the work, smell of glue from floor tiling etc) I couldn`t smell it anyway and the F/F was still a bit cold at that point so I wasn`t thinking it had packed up (until today). Engineer also said it could be damage as they are more likely to go over a slower period and this was quite sudden.
I have pulled it from the wall and had a good look at the back, I can`t visibly see damage but not sure which part would be damaged, can anyone point me at where to look? I need to see the foreman in the morning and not sure what to point out to him.October 9, 2013 at 8:21 pm #402429inthesticks

Just to paint a better picture also, the F/F has been moved many times this last couple of weeks, due to rewiring, plastering, kitchen fitting & flooring, so it wasn`t just one move. My instinct tells me it was the moving, because i`ve had more than 10 workmen here, as good as they are they have been really pushed to get work done & get on to next job. It also is less than 3 years old, checked with supplier & it was December 2010 when I bought it and I would really expect that make to last a bit longer.
Thanks for help so far by the way.October 9, 2013 at 9:55 pm #402430ELDAR59

If there is damage, then it will be to pipe work at the rear and will also more than likely be accompanied by an oily residue around any break in the pipe.
This would be unlikely really. -
