ParticipantHi,
I have a Neff Dishwasher. It was manufactured in 2004, model number S5457XOGB.
Recently, I have noticed that it has got noisier in operation. The Dishwasher has now stopped functioning.
When you switch the dishwasher on you can hear the pump dump any water that is in the dishwasher but it fails to start a wash cycle.
I have been doing some fault finding….
Initially I thought the aquastop was the culprit. But I have had the left panel off the dishwasher and can see water enter the manifold after the dishwasher has been switched on.
I have uploaded a video of the dishwasher in operation, which can be accessed here (http://youtu.be/-fQZ8p2yEJY)
Having read up a bit more on dishwashers and how they operate I am suspecting the main motor (recirculation pump) has failed. This would explain why the dishwasher got louder in operation before failing completely. The drain pump is working fine.
I thought I would post here for any advise before changing any parts.
Is there any way to test if the motor is working ?
Thanks in advance for any advice received.
James

Sounds like the main circulating pump has seized. Power unplugged, remove right hand side panel. The motor is right there so try turning the rotor cooling fins with your finger. They should turn with ease in both directions but I suspect it is jammed solid. Also you should spot white powdery corrosion under the motor nearest the pump chamber. That is a dead giveaway that a leaky pump shaft seal has rusted the front bearing and there is little hope (though some) of rescuing the motor (depending on how bad it is on strip-down) 🙁

Hiya,
Thanks for your help.
I couldnt get my finger into the cooling fins… So with the appliance unplugged I tried turning the fins with an screwdriver. It looks like the motor has seized. However, it turns anti clockwise with a small amount of force. Clockwise I have to put quite some force to get it to move.
Are these motors repairable, or is it the case of getting a replacement ?
Thanks

They are repairable as long as the drive shaft is not badly rusted OR sustains damage whilst removing the Impellor and ball race bearing.
