ParticipantHi
I have a samsung RL41WGTB that 2 days ago developed a fault. The bottom Freezer seems to be fine, if anything its even colder than it possible should be. The fridge on top is not working. Its no longer cooling and the temp is a constant 18 degrees. There does not seem to be any cool air going into it.
I checked the compressor and its hot and seems to be working. The bottom of the freezer is covered in Thick clearish Ice, so much so that the bottom drawer is stuck solid to the freezer. So I decided to defrost it overnight to see if it makes an difference. Any one have any other ideas or had a similar issue.
Thanks for any help

Hi
Switch the whole appliance off and leave both doors open for 36hrs. you will need plenty of towels on the floor.
At the rear of the fridge freezer remove the metal plate (if there is one) and just above the compressor (black round thing) there is a tray that holds the water until it evaporates, Just above that there is a piece of rubber tubing about 2″-3″ attached to a plastic tube that comes out the bottom of the freezer.. PULL this off and throw away. switch back on and you’ll find it working correctly.

Hi Bryan
Thanks very much for your help. I have done what you recommended and defrosted. Afterwards the black tray in the back was full of water which I emptied. There was water dripping out of the black tubing. This tubing did not come off easily it looks like it needs to be cut off, so I left it for now. Can you have a look at the image and confirm that this is the tubing that needs to come out. Why was this causing the problems.
Thanks again for your help

Hi
Yes the black rubber top dead centre of the picture. it gets sticky after years of heat and stops the water running away.

Hi Adrian,
Thanks for the detailed reply. Ive got the same FF – had the compressor replaced a few years ago but found the comment about the black rubber tubing interesting.
Im not in trade, but if the black tubing does cause issues I was thinking of removing it also (thoughts?)
I guess Samsung place it round to protect the pipe from being submerged in the water? if it gets too high – would I be correct on this?
Thx

Bryan
You are an absolute godsend. I was so concerned that I would have to fork out for another fridge/freezer but thanks to your accurate and detailed information, my problem has now been fixed.
Adrian, thanks to you also for the pic I would never had located the tube thing without your help.
Regards
Fiona

Hi, I have the same problem. Freezer works fine and the fridge is cold but not as cold as it should be. Is defrosting the fridge a necessary step as I would lose the food ok the freezer as well as the fridge? Or can it be done without defrosting? Thanks

Hi,
I have a friend with the exact same problem, I took the metal cover off the back which revealed the tray and black tubing. The tray was completely dry. There was no rubber tubing covering the black plastic tube. Would this be because Samsung shipped with rubber tube or maybe someone has already removed rubber tube?
When she first got the problem she defrosted the FF for 24 hours, she did say there was a big build up of ice in the freezer. Ive asked her to turn off for 36 hours as instructed in the post.
Do you think turning the FF off for 36 hours will reset everything and problem will be solved ?
If this does not work is there anything else that can be done before getting an engineer out?
Thanks

FYI turning the Fridge Freezer off has resolved problem with Fridge not functioning. I can only think some of the pipes were frozen solid which was stopping the fridge from working so I presume turning off for an extended period (36 hours) did the job.
