ParticipantI replaced the instantaneous water heater a few days ago and the unit was fine until today. Now it fills but won’t go. Looking on this forum and elsewhere it seems that’s a circulation pump or capacitor thing.
Now. When I was reassembling after replacing the heater I had a brief leak (forgot to reconnect a hose 😡 ). And it’s only now I see there’s been water sitting in the base of the machine ever since (maybe a week).
I’ve tried testing the capacitor with a digital multimeter and it seems OK. SO. Do you think I’ve fried the motor? is there a fuse somewhere? (Controls operate fine).
I’ll let it all dry out and try again, but any suggestions would be welcome.

Water in the base shouldn’t effect the motor as the anti flood switch would operate before water could penetrate the windings. If the capacitor were faulty at least you would hear the motor trying to turn but just humming instead. I suspect no power getting to the motor caused by a wire off or the PCB having surface damage maybe?

No humming from the motor – nothing at all – all I can hear is the diverter from the new heater changing over every minute.
I’d be surprised if it was PCB damage as I haven’t been working anywhere near the control unit.
No loose wires that I can see – the motor has 4 numbered tabs, 3 of which are connected, and an earth. As I say, it’s been working fine for the last few days.
Anything else I should check?

We wouldn’t. The motor can blow a triac on the circuit board. With no power going to the motor then the PCB could well be at fault. Time to remove it and check I would suggest. 😉

Thanks Martin,
I’ll call a local repairer first thing tomorrow…
