ParticipantHello- in the last couple of days our Samsung RS21 DCSV has started cutting out. There is a click and the power seems to switch off and the panel display is dead. If we switch it off at the plug, leave it for a while and switch back on -it seems to start fine – then a few hours later it cuts out (this is getting more frequent).
I can access the main pcb ET-R600 DA41-00188A at the back rear in a plastic container and the pcb “looks” fine (I’m no expert but nothing looks burned out, and the board looks pristine no excess dust).
I don’t know how to access the pancel pcb to check it – does anyone know how I can do this?
The panel diagnostics show no error code. There is no excess ice anywhere. The fridge was bought maybe around 2005 and Samsung engineers did visit once to install a modification due to a known excess ice problem.
My (limited knowledge) gut-feel is that the fault maybe a component related to the main power coming in causing the fridge to switch off -the fridge seems to work fine when its on.
Any suggestions for next steps would be gratefully received!

Hi
With you saying that the display goes off.. That isn’t normal. Does the internal light go off at the same time ?.

PS: I tried looking through the existing guides. The Fridge Freezer Fault Diagnosis Tool didn’t work for me (pc running vista using internet explorer 9)

Hi Bryan – yes when it cuts out, there is a click, then no hum, no lights in the display panel, pushing any button doesn’t create a beep, and the internal fridgr / freezer lights are off too.

Hi Mike
Then what you have is a POWER supply problem and I would suggest that its external to the appliance. Check the socket and plug.
I also assume that when it restarts there is a clunk from the ice dispenser area.

Thanks for this advice Bryan,
Yes there is a clunk from the ice dispenser when it restarts.
We will try using a different socket. Is there any tool to get to monitor a power supply?
The plug is encased in plastic and looks OK but we’ll change that if we are still getting problems.
Whatever happens I will post an update.

Hello, here’s an update:
I ran an extension lead from another room into the kitchen and the fridge still clunked out after between approx 60 mins.
I have to unplug it (or switch off at wall socket)for at least 90 seconds before restoring power will switch it on (with 2 clunks).
I changed the original plug for a new one – no effect.
When it’s on, the fridge can get the freezer side down to a low temperature (per display and feeling) but doesn’t make much progress on cooling the fridge side -maybe its not on for long enough anymore?
My wife has also remembered that it did clunk off twice in the summer but switching off at the wall, waiting a minute and switching on brought it back.
I’m not sure how to confirm if my power supply is triggering this (I don’t think it was the original plug or socket used)or if a fridge component needs replacing (maybe a capacitor that smoothes the power received needs replacing)?
Any ideas or advice welcomed! Thanks for reading.

Hi
I think that it’ll neither need a PCB or an engineer visit.
I hold the PCB in stock but Wont accept returns due to the fault being guess work.
Where about in the country are you ?
