    Hello from a newbie,

I have had the above freezer for 6 years. Over the last 18 months i’ve been managaging a problem with the unit that takes about 3 months to show. The symptom being the freezer increases temperature to hover around -11 degrees i.e. not cold enough. There is also a slow build up of ice on the inside/top of the unit (3-4 millimetres after 3 months). I suspect this isnt a co-incidence.

If i switch the freezer off for 24 hours, let it defrost, then restart the freezer, it will be fine for another 3 months or so. Then the process is repeated – with lots of annoying alarm beeps when it warms up! Not great in the middle of the night.

Earlier this year an engineer inspected the unit and replaced the thermal cut-out switch. This didnt resolve the problem though. I called them back but was told their labour is only warranted for 3 months and they wanted another call out charge :eeek: . Dealt with that beviour and they’ve decided to waive the call out fee, but i’m not taking them up on their offer!

So i’m back to managing the situation, unless anybody has any ideas about what the fault maybe?

Door seals appear to be fine, and the door closes properly.
    Thanks in advance

If the cut-out’s have been replaced assuming they fitted the correct one’s then that really only leave’s the heating element being open circuit or the non-return valve on the drain tube is blocked causing water to back up then form an ice blockage. The circuit board or NTC’s rarely give trouble on this model and if you defrost it and it then work’s it won’t be the fan either.

Thanks for replying Captaincaveman1. If it’s an open circuit, what would need replacing? Also do you know where i can find the drain tube on it? Their is a plastic skin on the inside which i can remove.
I cannot find a manual for this for the life of me. I’m guessing ir’s a rebadged Hotpoint or AEG?
    Thanks again.

It’s an Electrolux as they own the AEG brand name. The element need’s checking to see if it’s open circuit and the drain tube and valve are at the back on the outside.
