ParticipantWe are experiencing gas cutout after ignition on three of five burners and have tried different settings of the flow control screws to no avail. It is looking like the flow control mechanism needs replacing. Can anyone help? Location: Hackney, London.

Have you tried the repairs@ module dobs ?
Otherwise, take a look in the directories or pop up your postcode (sorry I’m not familiar with london codes).
May I also ask, has the hob got safety thermocouples on each burner, you can tell as they are the type you have to hold the knob down after ignition for a few seconds and on release the burner should stay alight ?
I’m hoping that is all the problem is (faulty thermocouples) as if you think this is a gas flow/pressure issue I must advise you to shut the gas off using the cut off valve at the meter and call Transco on 0800 111 999 to check the gas regulator.
I’m not trying to induce panic, just safety awareness 😉

Hi
I think Dave is correct re thermocouples.
Smeg have superceded (check spelling) their thermocouples to the effect they now have two leads from them one to the tap the other is an earth lead to ensure a good circuit which thet seem to suffer from thus causing flame to fail due to grease build up around chassis mount of thermopcouple causing poor earthing to complete circuit.Any “work” on the appliance must be carried out by a Corgi registered installer.
Hope that helps
Greg 🙂

All five burners have safety thermocouples and these are the source of the problem. I am very interested to read Smeg have brought out new style thermocouples because we have been living with this problem for a long time and have had a couple of local engineers come out but all they did was twiddle the regulator screw which fixed the problem long enough for them to depart with a cheque but the problem reoccurred within a few days.
Repairs@ does not have an engineer for our area, postcode E9, but if you are an engineer reading this post and are planning on making a trip to London and would like to combine your journey with a repair job to fit these new style thermocouples please get in touch: 07946-616412.February 6, 2005 at 4:53 pm #125173admin

hi
im sure smeg are not alone with grease build up causing this fault.
We are smeg agents and just aware of this fact.
Adjusting the regulator screw is only moved mainly in commissioning a new appliance; and is adjusted when tap in its lowest setting to get the min flame available without it going out.
