ParticipantNot quite the same old moan but almost… 😕
Started ‘F’ cycle and within a few seconds the machine just stalled & the DL light went out. Rotated the dial to no effect. Wasn’t able to open the door. The problem was a blown fuse which was replaced.Started the same cycle again and all appeared ok until the very end of the wash – the DL light remained constantly on and the door wouldn’t open. Went on to the rinse segments of two other cycles to see if the DL light would extinguish but of couse it didn’t and the door remains resolutely locked.
Any ideas before I take the sledgehammer to it? 👿

Sounds like the door interlock has blown, it will almost certainly have damaged the main control unit at the same time.

Thanks for the diagnosis, iadom.
Is it worth calling out white van man or should I send this heap of junk to Hotpoint heaven? 😥

Why do you call it a heap of junk, it must be at least ten years old or more?
I repaired three similar or even older Hotpoint machines last week alone with the same type of fault. A ‘competent ‘ engineer should be able to repair the damaged control unit, assuming it has been damaged in the first place of course. A new door lock is not expensive either.
Also ‘white van man’ is often used in a derogatory way, I do hope you didn’t intend any slight on our trade by that remark. 🙁

Thanks again…
The machine is thirteen years old and the door has always been a bit dodgy at the start of the wash – you have to give it a good shove to commence the cycle. Of all the things though I expected to go wrong I didn’t anticipate a blown fuse.
Anything to do with the way the machine was being used?

I wouldn’t have thought the OP meant that at all. But rather is fully aware that our nations successful and efficient black economy in the service industry is reliant entirely on ‘white van man’. Long may that be the case. 😀
If it was a yellow van with a screwdriver on the roof then heaven help us. :rolls:

As Martin says no offence was intended but apologies if you felt that my use of the idiom was insensitive. 🙂
For the record you may refer to me as a ‘Hack’. That monicker of course rhymes with ‘Quack’ a term that more accurately reflects my wife’s occupation than that nauseating couplet ‘Holistic Therapist’. :rolls:
