    Hi All

I’m pretty sure the bearings are going (loud rattle in spin cycle; some play at front of drum; causing drivebelt to come off…I’ve replaced it twice but know this is not sustainable or even advisable). Hoover Service Centre has quoted €120 callout plus circa €200 for a new tub assembly. For another €50 on top I could buy an admittedly mid-low end Hotpoint replacement.

My question: is it possible to replace the bearings and should I pursue this option by locating a good service engineer (recommendations for Ireland welcomed-I get the impression that even if doable, bearing replacement is not a job for a whitegoods newbie!) or should I cut losses and pick up a new machine?

    With thanks in advance.

It’s between 10 & 13 years old so it’s useful life now way behind. The bearings are replaceable though a daunting task for a newbie. But chances are the drum shaft assembly has rotted through and the collar worn away so that too will need changing. So all in all a costly venture, even more so if you call someone in to fix it. Hoover won’t want to do it so don’t go down that route.:(
