    I have a brand new Firenzi fan assisted oven model number fsf 650ss.
    I bought it from Magnet. The oven door bends slightly when hot. The oven door and control panel gets extremely hot. I don’t expect them to stay stone cold but is there a regualtion to how hot they’re allowed to get. An engineer has already replaced the door to no effect. I will borrow a thermometer from work and measure these tempretures.
    Can any one tell me what the allowable tempertures for the outside door, control panel and knobs are on my fan assisted oven?

    Hi,

    Essentially the BS Standard is 60C above room ambient, which in most kitchens will end up at about 80C, not exactly even cool!

    Bear in mind that surface temperatures etc. need to be pretty accurate so make sure it’s a decent thermometer that you use. 😉

    What you will find most likely is that there is no cooling fan fitted to the oven and that will make the problem more noticable but also check that it is correctly vented. Many of the cheaper ovens require an open space at the top of the control panel, i.e. the spacer bar on the cabinet either cut or removed to enable decent airflow. If this is not correct then all sorts problems can occur. 😕

    Thanks for useful info.
    I borrowed a calibrated thermometer and probe from work. It takes the oven when set to 200ºC, 50 minutes to heat the outside panels to their final temperature.
    The top metal part of the door and control panel hover around 75-78ºC.
    Breifly the door measured 80.2ºC but I couldn’t repeat this measurement later. I had the central heating switched off this evening so the ambient temperature was on the cool side.
    I now notice in the instruction book there is a cooling fan. It says the cooling fan may run on. This has not happened so far. I suspect a faulty cooling fan. Also I have felt no air being expelled from the oven.
    I’ll phone the “engineers” again.
    What’s the BS number concerning domestic ovens like mine please?

    If the cooling fan were running you would normally feel a draught across the bottom edge of the control panel/top of the door.

    The engineer finally arrived today to look at this oven. I showed him the paragraph in the book about the cooling fan. He switched the oven on and felt round the gap above the door for air flow. There was no air flow. He removed the oven from the unit and removed the covers. There was no fan, no fan wiring and no sign of a thermostat to operate such a fan. The book says there is a fan to cool the front panel and that it runs on after cooking to keep the panel cool.
    Magnet’s book price when I ordered this oven was £379 but I bought it in one of thier sales £265.
    Would this be considered a cheap oven as mentioned in

    They’ve said I can pay the difference and upgrade to better model.
    Should this oven be in the market place at all with it’s bending door and 80ºC panel?

    To be fair at least Magnet (or the manufacturer) have offered the upgrade, many wouldn’t do that! so, fair play, that’s not too bad.

    I can’t comment on the quality of that appliance as I have no experience with the brand but at a list of £379 not to have a cooling fan seems a bit odd on a single under oven. Although Magnet do say that it’s not fitted on their website and that it has a “cooling system” whatever that means.

    On looking at it though it does look to be pretty basic.

    I thought you may be interested, as I just answered another query for someone with A Firenzi dishwasher who suspected it was a Zanussi I had a quick look for this model while using the tech disk, and lo and behold, this oven is a Zanussi, well Electrolux group anyway.

    And, no it doesn’t have or is meant tio have a cooling fan, except on the electronically controlled versions.

    The upgrade deal is a fair if not generous offer and a new one has already been ordered (AEG I think). I am happy with the after sales service. 😀
    I asked Magnet if the delivery guys were taking the old one away and they said just ditch it. A free Firenzi oven woohoo 😀 .
    I understand that people doing student rental properties and alike want budget kitchen appliances and I’ll be more cafeful in future not to buy these things.
    The Firenzi fridge, freezer, hob and dishwasher all work fine.
