ParticipantGood afternoon all,
Had my Beko WMA765s for about 6 years – never a problem, last month it stopped draining, filter was clear but pump had gone, so ordered new pump and switched this out. Been working fine for 2 weeks and now all of a sudden stopped working.
It finished a load but clothes were still wet so attempted to put it on a spin cycle, when I press the play button the filter pump sounds for approx. 3 seconds and then the program I am on just freezes. When I try a normal cycle it fills with water and then freezes. Could it be a problem with the motor?
I could have been hearing things but the last time it was working whilst it was tumbling around full of water it was making an odd sound, not sure how to describe it other than a wire scratching sound.
Any help/suggestions would be appreciated, will have to order a new washing machine tomorrow otherwise as the dirty clothes are piling up
Cheers

Maybe motor brushes are worn, power off if doing any testing of course.
Check that drum is free to turn by hand when you open door.November 16, 2013 at 3:40 pm #404613Rework24

Thanks for the quick reply, the drum will turn by hand, I have taken off the back panel and the belt is in good condition – struggling to find a guide to remove the motor so I can check the brushes. Is 6 and half years about right for the brushes to be worn? Is there a way to check without removing motor?

You can have a look at the motor from underneath by tipping the machine up, if theres a lot of black carbon dust on floor & the motor armature is very black its maybe time to change the brushes. Six years sounds a good run to be honest, it all depends on usage of course. Reckon new brushes will sort it out. Motor is mounted normally with 4 legs which have bolts securing them, the motor brushes are then normally fixed in place with 2 screws on each.

Thanks for the help, I’ve unscrewed the bolts, is there a trick to getting the motor off the plastic legs or is it just brute force?

No real trick to it.They are tight and normally a little amount of force is required.Try using a large flat screwdriver and gently prise the motor loose.

Thanks for the help on this!! I successfully removed the motor and brushes are worn, more on 1 side than the other. Going to clean the copper contacts and replace the brushes
