Hi, I have a Smeg DWF 66 it fills with water but just hums instead of washing. It will complete a full cycle but the liquid is just sitting on the bottom of the machine. If I start it again it pumps any water that in in it out and reheats the new water but will not wash – just hum 😡

    Any ideas?

    Thanks
    Woody42 (Ralph).

It will either be the circulation motor or the capacitor that starts it, the latter normally.

Opposite ends of the scale as far as replacement goes though, the motor will be over £100 and the capacitor about £10.

If you’re having a look yourself, please pull the plug 1st :zap:

    😀 Thanks Dave 😀

Circulation motor stuck solid. Striped it out, strippped it down tested ok. Motored it up with a drill to free it all up, squirt of WD40 all back together and working.

‘er in doors is delighted 😉

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

    Ralph.

My DWI612 has developed a similar fault and I fancy having a go at sorting it out myself (assuming the motor hasn’t gone kaput).

Could you tell me how I get access to the circulation motor? From the front or back? Do I have to tip the dishwasher up to get at it? I assume that the starter caps are nearby.

Any other tips apart from unplugging it of course.

    Cheers
    Mike

Access from under the machine. Make diagrams before removing anything is probably the best advice you’ll get!
