Can all manufactures’ upright frost-free freezers be located in a cold garage/outbuilding?.
BEKO say their models are the only ones which can as they operate in ambient temperature of -15degC to +43degc, whereas most other manufactures specify ambient range of +10degC to +43degC. A John Lewis salesman confirms this but another local white-goods supplier says any model will work OK in a garage even at -2degc to -15degC.
Thanks kwatt.
I’ve noted that nearly all units for the UK are Climate Class N/SN (+10/+16 to +32). However the Curry’s Article does not mention Climate Classes for very cold countries where perhaps the ambient range is far lower. The article says location of freezers in garages is a non-starter so the availability of Bekos advertised as operating efficiently at ambient temps down to -15degC is the best compromise notwithstanding their reliability issues.
Even in cold climate areas the expectation is to keep refrigeration in warmed areas only. The train of thought being that they are kept indoors, in heated dwellings and not outdoors.
I got a press release the other day for a fridge freezer in the USA that was designed for that use, in garages etc, it cost about $1400 if I recall.
