ParticipantHi all. My tumble dryer has develloped an annoying leak. If you are looking from the rear, it is on the left hand side, by the heating element. There is a sponge pad on the bottom of the cover, under the heating elements which always seems to be wet. . Has anyone got some advice how to fix it please. I have thought about sealing the cover that houses the heating element?Would that do any good.
ThanksNovember 25, 2013 at 5:51 pm #405172iadom

No, it used to be completely sealed allowing the water to splash onto the elements and tripping the rcd.
You need to clean out the large condenser on a very regular basis, pull it out and blast it through with a garden hose or better still a power washer. This should be done every few weeks, or more often depending upon the type of items dried.
Then with the condenser removed, lie flat on the floor and reach right back into the condenser housing. You will feel a groove running along the back, you need to pull out any soggy fluff and gunge from this channel.

That was a quick reply by the way. Wifey does clean the condensor out regularly, but will give it a try, as described. I have a pressure washer, are you sure this wont damage the condensor?.

Not at all, it’s a stupid design as far as cleaning goes. Pressure hose will do no harm at all.

As ladom says they are a stupid design. Crucial that you clean right at the back. Any blockage and water will end up being blown up into the heater instead of going into the pump housing

TBH you can lie the machine on its back to reach into the condensor housing but you will get some water running out at the rear.

Just wanted to say, your advice was spot on. I used my power washer to flush thru the condensor, and cleaned out the grouve at the back of the houseing. The dryer is now spot on, with no leaks. Thanks again
