ParticipantCustomer reported that this machine started to make a strange noise which she ignored for about 2weeks. From her description of the noise I hazard a guess it being a brush noise.
Not having done anything about the noise the machine has stopped working.
When switched on all the spin speed lights flash at the same time as the wash light which is the top light. The carbon brushes are worn very low so I have replaced them but the flashing lights still remain. Motor tests out OK and there are no earth faults on this machine.
I found some information regarding resetting the PCB by tuning off, then to the 6’oclock position, hold the spin button and turn the selector 1 position clockwise but this made no difference. Should this machine have to be reset, I have replaced brushes on quite a few WAE2416’2’GB machines which didn’t require resetting.
Any help would be appreciated.

The machine won’t generally reset until the fault is rectified as a rule. All five LED’s flashing I think means a PCB error, not 100{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} on that though. But it still may be possible to reset it using the technique you describe. But be sure to hold that spin button at least 5seconds once you turn the dial to the 7o’clock position.

Thanks Martin,
I did hold the spin button for a good 5 seconds.
Does this machine definitely have to be reset? I have never had to do this to a machine with the silver touch buttons before.December 10, 2013 at 2:48 pm #406034Martin

Yes they do have a reset function (as described) though that doesn’t mean it will, especially if the fault is unresolved. With motor failings as an example it is best to leave the motor disconnected and try the reset procedure before reconnecting it again.

Logic suggests that if the motor was disconnected it would sense a fault and not reset 😕
After replacing the brushes I checked the resistance through the armature and winding and for an earth fault everything appeared good but I will go back and give this a try.
Thanks.

Just an update, after returning to this machine I tried to reset again before, it reset this time after 3 attempts.
Not sure what I did was different on the third attempt, I was always conscious to hold the spin button in for more than five seconds before and after rotating the control knob the one position.
Thanks for the help Martin -
