frazzled fridgey
ParticipantHi, I’m hoping for some help as I’m in a real muddle with what to do. My Diplomat APM6855-1 integrated fridge freezer has been declared ‘knackered’ by the fridge repair guy (we had the motor replaced in May last year and this time he said that the motor is fine but the elements are hot which means it’s a right off). I’m now really confused as to what to do in order to get one that will fit the hole and the doors etc as it sounds like they don’t offer refunds if you’ve bought the wrong size, eeek!
I want a reliable f/f but can’t afford to break the £500 mark… any suggestions? I have a toddler and another baby on the way so really need this sorted in the next couple of days. Is it better to buy from the likes of Comet and use their installation service or an independent fridge engineer?
THank you so much in advance, I really hope someone can advice me.
(Current measurements of ‘hole’ are 60cm W 59cm D 190cm H) and it’s a 50-50 split

Hi
Can you recheck the height of the fridge freezer please as they are normally 177cm tall.
50:50 split is the most popular so sourcing stock should not be a problem. Any good local independent should be able to supply, install and dispose of the old appliance.
You could try the Retra listings to see if there is a recognised dealer nearby.
Comet as we knew them disappeared a year ago 😉

Oops, I meant currys! Thank you for your reply Don, my measurements are of the space as opposed to the existing fridge, is it the fridge I need to measure?
Are there any particular brands that are recommended? Or can anyone recommend a make/model for my dimensions? Regarding budget my parents have said that they can lend me a bit more money if it means getting a reliable fridge, currys charge £85 to install, im just wondering is that about right and can they be trusted!
Current fridge is 172cmx54cm
Also, am I restricted to a fridge of exactly the same height amd width or is it true that there is always a 5cm leeway in 50:50 fridges (I’m concerned about getting it wrong and the outer cupboard doors not fitting)

Hi
Without going mad on price I would take a look at the Gorenje RKI4181AWV 50;50 split comes with a full 5 year warranty as standard.
£85 for delivery and install is about right, I would still seek out an independent though 😉
You say the height of the existing is 172cm as you can see they are a little taller now. Again I would use the expertise of a local store to make sure you get the right install.
HTH 🙂

Thank you so much, I can’t tell you how good it is to get some proper advice. I’ve had a look and am I right in thinking that because there is only a 54mm gap that the fact that it is 55mm taller than my existing fridge means that it’s 1mm to tall so the doors won’t match? (Also, is it frost free?)

although on closer inspection it looks like my existing fridge is on diy ‘legs’ about 8cm TALL. The cupboard doors themselves measure 99cm (fridge) and 94.5cm so the current fridge is raised to ensure it fits the doors I guess? The Goenja model diagram states that the bottom door needs to be 846mm …. help… is there anyway this can work for me?!!!

Okay what I would do is take some photos and measurements of the timber doors and the appliance ones as well into my local independent retailer who should be able to help you sort a replacement.Don
