ParticipantHi guys
My 10 year old Bosch dishwasher is nearing the end of its life. It needs another instantaneous water heater (2 years after the last one) as the bottom rotor arm isn’t turning and I don’t want to throw any more money at it. It had a new module board last year.So my repair guy says that he can get me a Bosch SMV40T10GB for a good price delivered, all fitted, old one taken away etc but looking at reviews it seems that alot of people are under impressed with this model for various reasons.
I only use about 2 programmes as it is so it doesn’t have to be an all singing and dancing model.
Which magazine say SMV65E00GB is worth looking at.So guys, which fully integrated mid range Bosch models would you recommend ?

Hi
You can’t please all the people all of the time but you can please some of them some of the time 😀
I have not had any problems with that model at all in fact it’s been a best seller for a while.

Hi Don. Thanks for the prompt reply. I have been reading reviews on this dishwasher and people seem to be mentioning the same problems… the design of the shelves , particularly the upstand of the top shelf and the absence of an upper knife rack (which mine has and I find very useful) They maintain that the design of the bottom rack with large gaps means stuff falls through onto the rotor arms.
Might just get the water heater replaced again. How long should that part last?December 17, 2013 at 8:47 am #406340don

The upstands are designed for cups on top, for mugs you could lower the basket. They can also be used for long utensils.
The knife rack was stopped on that range some time ago probably to keep within a price point, if you require this part you need to go to the next range up. If the basket kit is the same as your’s you could use your’e existing rack 😉hbrac wrote:They maintain that the design of the bottom rack
with large gaps means stuff falls through onto the rotor arms. The bottom basket is no different to any other, bottom basket is for large items, top basket spacing is narrower for small pieces.

How long is a piece of string 😉
If it’s fitted by an engineer it will have a guarantee, how long depends on who fits it.

Thanks Don. Do you agree that the problem with the bottom rotor arm is the instantaneous water heater ?(in the words of Prince Charles…”whatever that might be”. I do use a qualified repairer. He has repaired every appliance in my house (fridge, freezer, oven, dishwasher, washing machine and tumble dryer !)so is time served in the hbrac household but I am always interested in other repairer’s views.

95{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} certainty the water diverter within the heater that has failed. Easy enough to check too by allowing the machine to progress 5 minutes into a wash cycle. By which time the motorised water diverter should switch/alternate the flow of water every 60 seconds from the bottom to the top spray arm and vice versa. When the unit has failed then no such switching occurs. The ONLY cure is to replace the heater. Cheap to fix on some models, not so on others. What’s the full ENr number of your errant machine anyway?

Hi Martin. Yes he ran the machine for a bit, opened the door, and the bottom arm hadn’t moved from where he had left it.
I have a SGV43A03GB , bought in Feb 03. It had the water heater replaced in Feb 11. Total £173 inc. labour. In Aug 12 I paid £150 for a new module (492685) as there was no heat. Hope that helps.December 17, 2013 at 12:53 pm #406346Martin

The heater (part no: 00483257) is a costly one (£102) so the fitted price no doubt a lot more than you paid back in 2011. 🙁

Oh well. Not a lot I can do bar getting a new dishwasher. Ours is on about twice a day so that would equate to 4 or more years of normal usage of the heater in an average household. Thank you for your input Martin.
