ParticipantHi
I have the new edition of SIOS and when I attempting to install it throughs up an error message, “error extracting support files, catastrophic failure”. Anyone else had this problem or can shed light on what may be occuring.Laurence 😥

I’ve just installed it this morning as well Laurence, no hitches here.
It sounds like it’s a dufff disk to me 🙁
Did you have a previous version installed by the way ?
If you did, did you let it uninstall the old version automatically ? If it’s a virgin install, you must install Sybase first.
Dave.

Hi Dave,
Thanks.
Yes I do have it and previous insllations have been no problem.
It occurs within a second or two of starting the installation just
as it tries to uninstall.I am afraid it might be my computer as I had a funny smell in
my little office yesterday, like one I have had with a previous
computer when the mother board burnt out. I am just going to
take it apart to see if there is anything obvious. Thanks again

Laurence,
I had problems but it has something to do with windows xp service pack 2 if indeed that it what you are running. I now just put it on my laptop which i stop all the sp2 updates and just take the critical onesSparkyp

Hi Sparkyp,
Thanks for your response.
I run 2 computers side by side linked together via a switching unit so I can use one monitor, mouse and keyboard.
Both machines have service pack 2 downloaded. After I tried several attempts to install the latest edition of SIOS on my business computer without any luck, I then did a virgin install on my other computer and this succeeded. So I am non the wiser as to why it did not install on the original unless it has to do with updating same 😕
Thanks again,
Laurence

Hi,
SIOS is a t**t to add to an existing application. If it fails to load clean…forget it. I tried everything including tech help from whirlpool and nothing would work. Afraid it was the end of SIOS on that computer.
Over 30 months it happened twice to my 10 computers, never could recover the situation, neither could whirlpool.Kevin

Hi Kevin,
Thanks for that.
In some ways that is reassuring that at least my computer is`nt becoming problematic. Did Whirlpool acknowledge any problems with SIOS that caused this to occur?

There is a way but it means editing the registry (not recommmended !)
I guess Whirlpool won’t tell anyone that as they may be held responsible for goosing a few PC’s in the process 😯

whirlpool gave me a sheet of instructions to carry out to solve the problem as they know it can occur…this is suppose to completely remove SIOS to allow its re installation.
Just like Whirlpool, it was useless and did not work, Even had an expert try it, no luck. Gave up on Whirlpool, totally naff.Kevin

ParticipantI’ve had the same problem with instalation of SIOS on the another PC with XP sp2.I’ve found that XP sp 2 does not support some older programs.I’ve tried to solve this problem using Compatibility Mode but it didn’t work. Finally,I’ve replaced XP sp2 with XP sp 1 .
