ParticipantHi,
Full model ID is SMS50E02UK/01.
I’ve been having occasional problems with the check water light coming on for a few weeks. Checked all I could think of but turning off and on again usually sorted it out and once the problem goes away it’s hard to keep searching for what’s causing it!
Since boxing day the fault is permanent though, so I’m hoping for some help please. I’ve had a search on here but can’t find the same symptoms as I’m getting.
What happens is the programme starts and the drain pump runs for about a minute (normal behaviour I think). Next I think it’s attempting to take water in as there’s an electrical hum which I’ve traced to the valve at the end of the fill hose but after that the check water light comes on and the machine ends the programe.
I’ve disconnected the fill hose and checked the isolating valve turns on and off properly and also cleaned a very small amount out of the filter in the end of the hose. Reconnected and the same happens.
To cover all I could I’ve also checked the drain side out and found nothing wrong there either.
I think as there’s an electrical hum the coil of the valve must be OK, but wonder if the valve is stuck/broken somehow. Is there a way to get in and have a look inside – I’ve not been brave enough to have a go without some advice!
Any help appreciated, thanks.

by the look of the valve on this machine its a complete valve and hose unit
if there is water getting to the valve and valve is humming then is gone
only other thing it can be is inlet filter which if you take valve off tap its in the endDave

Thanks for the reply.
That would explain why I couldn’t see how the valve and hose came apart then!
Is it a practical DIY fix? I class myself as fairly compentent – I served an engineering apprenticeship (years ago!) and I’ve changed drain pumps on washing machines and elements on tumble dryers successfully.
If so, do you know the part number I’d be looking for? Thanks again,

Brilliant – thanks very much. I’ll give that a try and hopefully stop having to wash up by hand!
