ParticipantHi,
The washing machine recently started behaving erratically – it started stopping mid-cycle, then you could switch it on and off and it would continue. It seems to be capable of performing all functions, like spinning and filling and emptying soap drawer, but it now does them randomly. sometimes if you switch it off and leave it and start it on another cycle it will start again from fresh, sometimes it starts to swirl as if it’s mid-cycle.
It’s not really displaying any consistent behaviour, bit like it’s demented and can do everything but just stops and forgets for a bit
I can get it to spin, but it’s not draining the water out fully and hasn’t rinsed it properly.Someone just came and had a quick look, twirled the dial, mentioned how old it was, and said you might as well buy a new one. He did then say it needed a new motor but i think was trying to put me off getting him to do it. I’m well capable of replacing a motor, just don’t want to if it’s not the right thing!
Any suggestions or is it impossible to say without looking at it?!
Thanks, Jill

Have you checked the pump filter and drain outlet pipe for blockages or obstructions?

no, but i will as soon as i can get the stuff out… that makes more sense – I mean if it was the motor, it wouldn’t turn, or spin, right? and i’ve just set it to spin with water in, and so it starts to drain but veeeeery slowly for a bit then stops, switch it off and on at the same point, and it drains a bit more, and so on
thanks, will see what happens

Make sure you check the outlet pipe if it is connected to your under sink plumbing.

ah i hadn’t seen that post, although i did look at it but it’s dark in there now and couldn’t see how to unclip it easily. anyway, i found an outlet at the front which let all the water out, along with a buckle and loads of fibrous gloop, so i’m pinning my hopes on a blockage that stopped it draining properly and have put it on a quick wash to see if it runs through…

well it’s just run right through 2 cycles, with soggy washing back into the second one and it came out spun dry. I’ve cleaned the machine up and levelled it so the only disturbance is a slight jurassic-park ripple in a bowl of water nearby… thanks very much for your help! I am well up for fixing things but sometimes just a kick in the right direction if it’s something you’ve never tackled before makes the difference between starting and not bothering… reading back on my post, I realise the clue was in the not draining! Thank you, it’s very much appreciated that you take the time to answer these posts, and I can assure you that in my life with my friends, I always pass on this kind of knowledge so I may not share it online but I will help other people out in future 🙂
