    Hiya,

I went out to this machine yesterday and fitted a new door seal – the customer had already ripped out the old one 😯

Fitted no problems, and tested the machine as per normal. However today the customer calls me back to say on spin the had smoke and smells coming from the machine, just like before the old seal failed. Now it sounds to me like the seal is making contact with the drum on spin – however when I fitted and tested it seemed ok. I also, as always, checked for bearing wear and the drum was nice and rigid in the outer. Could someone please give me some ideas as to what to look for and/or a resolution. I don’t really want to be walking away from this.

    Cheers in advance guys.

    John.

I would guess at a crack in the spider. Had same fault last year

I would agree with the cracked spider its very difficult to check not like the old hotpoints, i had the same problem with one and the spider looked ok when i stripped it down but when i removed it it had a crack in it.

Had a couple of Bosch washer dryers with this fault, both Smeg made. 🙁

Yes this seems to be the case. The drum is rotating almost on an eliptical path, yet bearings are good. Thanks fellas.
