My daughter has an American Style Amana XRSS287BB which has developed a strange fault. Under normal use the compressor cuts in for about 10 secs then out again, but very occasionally it will run normally and ice is made etc. However if I open the freezer door the compressor kicks in after a few seconds and will remain on as long as the door is slightly open. Shutting the door after say 5 minutes or longer and the compressor cuts out. I suspect the thermistor/thermostat which is positioned on top of the lamp/ice dispenser drive unit. Could I short this thermistor out to test this theory or is there something else to try.
Your help would be appreciated. AJ.

This is most likely a main PCB fault,

If you replace the PCB it needs to be programmed in so you would need an engineer to fit.

New PCB’s come with instructions but the code on the label inside the fridge rarely works and it will not program with an incorrect code.

It will need a default code depending on the Jazz number on the PCB

Thanks for the info Bob, but not what I wanted to hear as the only source I can find supplies both PCB’s (high and low voltage) for £373.
I presume it is only the high voltage board I need or is that not correct?
So it might be a case of scrapping the whole thing regrettably.

    Re: Amana Fridge Freezer

I have found in the past if you replace the PCB about 50{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} of the ones I have replaced the compressors have failed within a year of the pcb being replaced.

This may be due to this type of fault puts extra stress on the compressor.

So depending how old it is and the condition if it is worth fitting a new PCB.

This isn’t the 2224 model which takes the jazz board, but an older model.
You’ll need both pcbs as there may be a compatibility issue if you just change one. The main one sits at the back on the left hand side and the other one is behind the dispenser.

    Re: Amana Fridge Freezer

Thanks for that ELDAR59, so I now have to decide whether to take a risk and change the 2 PCB’s. A new compressor was fitted about 2 years ago so hopefully it will be OK. As I said it is quite happy running with the door open.
I have found the 2 boards priced at £373, do you know anywhere with a better price than that please? A.J.

    Re: Amana Fridge Freezer

Freezer eventually failed completely so has been scrapped and a new Bosch purchased. Anyone wish to buy an icemaker from this model (Whirlpool W10190972) only 6 months old?? A.J.
