Hotpoint Fridge Model RLA 36 – noisy compressor

I bought this Hotpoint fridge on 15 January 2014 to replace another Hotpoint one that had stopped working after many years of reliable service. It was a bit of a panic buy as it was needed in a hurry. My concern is that the compressor is very loud to the point that I can hear it from the bedroom. Admittedly, as we live in a bungalow the kitchen and bedroom are in relatively close proximity but the old fridge never made this level of noise. The troubleshooting section of the blurb states “The fridge motor (compressor) makes a buzzing or humming sound when it is running. This can be louder when first switched on. This sound will reduce over the first few months”

Do I believe that or is the manufacturer just hoping I will have got used to the noise (and the sleepless nights) after “a few months“?? 😥

There are two other appliances in the kitchen, a Liebherr fridge and a Liebherr freezer . . . both wonderfully silent in operation.
