Surely this has been discussed before but I can’t find it..?

Where the drum shaft wears through the teardrop bearing and cuts into the actual back panel of the machine

I am looking for the part number for the rear panel of the case

    and

what ingenous remedies others here have come up with to rectify this fault, as the new teardrop does not last long without the support of the panel below it

    Model number?????

I don’t think the back panel gives any real support to the teardrop bearing as far as wearing away goes, they will wear through regardless. :rolls:

Never changed a back panel, just the bearing. As the slot the shaft cuts into the back panel is much narrower than the new bearing it will be supported as well as it ever was IMHO.

Agree with Jim – no need to change the back panel with the teardrop bearing. The only one that causes problems now and again is the square bearing version. Had to replace a couple of the riveted on support brackets in the past.
The V4 shaft kit replaces all the bearing and seal components and a new screw on shaft for the early drum; note the later drum has a riveted on shaft that is not replaceable and requires a complete drum assembly.

The teardrop bearing lasts a little longer than the square one, but not much. However I don’t think changing the back panel would make any difference, it’s just a crap design. :rolls:

Agree with those comments, but I usually fill the hole in back panel with quick steel (putty) whether it helps or not ? I don’t know!!!!!!

This dryer is basically a Creda design originally. They had a plastic, square bearing that lasted 15 to 20 years in some cases. The retrograde step of removing jockey pulleys and fitting the stupid, ultra tight belts instead as a cost cutting exercise is the reason the bearings fail.

Simply fitting a proper rear bearing would solve this problem in an instant.

will do that, worth a try for the minimal cost involved!
