ParticipantHi all.My old Hotpoint Ultima WMA74 washing is troubling me.The drain pump will not stop so water will not enter the machine to start the wash. There is no water in the machine so i don’t know why the drain pump is constantly on.The filter is cleaned & clear as is the pump.the air pressure switch is working(blew into it & heard 2 clicks)Changed the clear plastic hose from the sump drain to the air pressure switch.
The machine had a snapped drum suspension spring which has been changed, but it will not work properly.it used to fill & wash(with the snapped spring) but not drain. Then it started to overfill, now the drain pump wont stop.please help anyone.

If, as it appears you have been using it with a snapped suspension spring then the drum, motor or any other part of the innards could have shorted out on the wiring harness, this in turn may have damaged the main pcb.
Using the machine with a snapped spring is not the wisest thing to do TBH.

Thanks for the response iadom.I agree with you about the snapped drum suspension spring, however i didn’t know it was snapped till i removed the top cover of the machine.i thought that the drum had become unbalanced for some reason.

It had become unbalanced, the spring had snapped. It should have been obvious there was something seriously wrong as soon as you looked at the door seal, it would have been badly twisted out of shape.

Indeed,i thought the door seal had slipped along the drum ,but did not realise what was actually happening,& that it was indicative of a snapped spring.I dont stand & watch the machine wash, & in terms of results, the clothes were being washed as they normally would. One day the drum banging against the side of the drum alerted me to the fact that all was not well

Have you made any progress with the fault, damage to the pcb’s caused by things like this is usually obvious with lifted tracks or blown components?

Have u tried blowing from the pressure switch, down in to the pressure chamber, you may still have a blockage there, other than that go with previous answer…
