ParticipantHi,
My Bosch Classixx 6 WAE24164GB/30 has tripped the breaker in the fuse box. It seems it was spinning when it did this as the clothes were still very wet but the machine was not full of water. After re-setting the breaker and setting the machine off again it went straight into a spin cycle, ran for a minute or so then tripped the breaker again.
Any suggestions as to what the problem might be? Brushes??
Many thanks, TimFebruary 15, 2014 at 12:26 pm #409619Martin

Yes brushes need replacing and clean up all the carbon dust within the motor while you’re at it otherwise more problems with RCD tripping!

Thanks for your response and advice Martin.
I have just tried the machine on a Spin Only and it went through the spin cycle OK. Would I be correct in suspecting I’ve just been lucky?
How easy is it to get at the brushes on these machines?
Thanks, Tim

Don’t use the machine until it is fixed or you will bugger up the armature. Brushes are easy to replace once you’ve taken the motor out.

Well, new brushes fitted OK but still tripping the breaker when spinning.
Any other suggestions, apart from the skip?
Thanks,

Strip and clean the motor thoroughly to ensure all carbon dust is removed. You may need to clean the commutator with a comm stick (available fom the UK Whitegoods shop).

Hi, apologies for the delay in an update but I resorted to getting an engineer’s professional opinion (waited a week by which time I was away for a week hence delay).
Due to ‘domestic’ pressure I decided to get an engineer to look at the machine in the forlorn hope he might fix it while we were away, but with a stricy maximum on what I would pay.
The pro confimed that the fault is ‘down to earth’. He recommended a new motor but also said if that did not fix it, it may be the electronics(?!?) Unfortunately I was not there when the engineer tested the machine so I’m going by the briefest written report and what he said to my son.
As I’m now looking at a new machine anyway I have taken the motor apart and given it a clean as best I can, but does the above make sense re electronics?
BTW, I was quoted over £200 for the motor, plus fitting?

He may well be correct in that diagnosis and £200 is far far beyond its economic worth. Better you put that money toward a replacement machine I would say.

Thanks Martin. I know you are right but it bugs the hell out of me to throw something out that is otherwise still in excellent condition and not very old (I don’t think 4.5 yrs is old, I have had Candy, Hotpoint and Zanussi machines last longer, and with more work – kids still at home).
Regards, Tim
PS, Bosch Washing for sale, one careful owner but bust! (that is the machine and the owner) -
