Has anyone tried the new Dettol Sanitizer liquid and found it any good or is it just another gimmick?
Does oxygen based bleaching agents found in non bio or bio tablets or washing powders kill bacteria and germs?
Its a minefield in the detergent isle with all these new products being bought out.

My worry is that of all the germs that we could get into contact with on our clothing Dettol can only kill 99{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} of them. I’m sorry Dettol but that’s not good enough if the missing 1{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} are still populate on my clothing. Will E. coli still linger in the folds of my vest? Bacteria lurking in my boxers? Not good enough Dettol…… :rolls:

I’ve not tested it or seen any test results so can’t really comment.
I would however be surprised if the marketing hype lives up to scrutiny.

Ken,
Does oxygen based bleaching agents kill bacteria alone without added disinfectant? I know chlorine does but we don’t have that in laundry here in the UK as far as I am aware.
I am currently using Simply ‘Sensitive’ for whites and underwear and it washes well however they don’t stock any liquids anymore or much other variants. Are they going bust or reformulating their products? I thought you might know seeing as you know a lot about detergents!

I’m afraid I’ve not spoken to anyone from Simply for more than four years so, I really don’t know what they’re up to.
There was talk of all sorts from them but, alas, it seems to have withered on the vine.
Both oxygen and chlorine bleach will kill a percentage of bacteria but the ratio will alter dramatically based on the conditions and what bacteria. For the most part however in practical terms in a domestic setting in relation to washing machines and dishwashers, temperature is probably more effective coupled with a good detergent more than focussing on one ingredient.
What we see in real world use is low temperature washing (>=40?C) with low quality detergent which will not kill much of anything really without some serious help. Then couple that with low quality products with, shall we say, questionable temperature stability or even managing to reach the set temperature at all and you have a recipe for disaster really.
People seem generally focussed on saving as much on energy and detergent as possible as well as money buying decent products so, that’s what they get.
Ninety washes for £7 down at your local Morrisons, a penny or so saving per wash on electricity (if that) and sub £200 machines with a fair dollop costing double or more often not a lot better. Then a large number of people, if not the majority, who don’t know what to wash, how, in what and so on.
Therefore, in answer to the question, there isn’t really an answer that’s simple. There’s too many variables involved.
