KeymasterThis is a model with top freezer, bottom refrigerator with water dispenser in door, purchased new about 3 years ago. No previous problems but about 2 weeks ago a noise like fan blades hitting something became apparent when the refrigerator circulation fan started and stopped, and it was noisy in operation. Now the fan for the refrigerator does not come on and the air temperature has risen to 14. I can feel ice in one of the air ducts at the back of the fridge interior. The freezer continues to work as normal.
I am afraid I am just your basic DIYer. I have successfully made many repairs over the years to washing machines, tumble dryers, cookers, cooker hood and vacuum cleaner, but never a refrigerator -I can’t see how to get to the fans on this!
Could the problem just be due to icing up, if so how best to cure?
How do I gain access to the fan to inspect/repair/replace, and where to obtain the part?I would be grateful for any advice.

Possibly, although you would normally expect this to happen to a fan in the freezer compartment where the ice is formed.

Switch it off and let the whole unit defrost for 24 hours with the doors open and try it again.

Thanks for your help and very quick response. I will give full defrosting a try.

Update:
Whilst letting the unit defrost I’ve been more adventurous with dismantling and located the fans in both the refrigerator and freezer compartments. The refrigerator fan had ice preventing it from moving. This has now cleared enough to free the fan blades. I am pleased to report following a brief test period that the fan now works again. I will leave the unit disconnected and open to defrost further overnight and maybe until tomorrow night before reassembling and running normally. I guess then it’s just wait and see if the problem recurs. Thanks again for your tip, Dave.
