ParticipantHello everyone,
I have a problem with our 12 year old freezer, there are water drops forming on the below rim of the freezer door and these drops fall to floor and create a water puddle. UNclogging the back drain pipe has not worked, the mechanic we brought in told us to throw it out and get a new one as his suggestion was to tear apart the door and check the insulation material which would cost a fortune.
The situation may be related to over stuffing the freezer as less crowd in the compartment does decrease water amount. If the freezer door is unattended(like when we go out on holiday) there is no leakage.
We already got a brand new Siemens but I’d like to know if it would be worth it to carry it to our summer house and replace the 25 year old artifact which does barely stand up(but does not drip) with this one. Any ideas on a quick fix?
I am open to your suggestions on this issue.

Is there any water under the salad nins in the fridge ?
If not, then it does look like an insulation related problem, especially given it’s age.
It may well continue to operate like this for some time, apart from the obvious dripping water problem.

Yes there is water under the salad compartment Dave and about the insulation problem I do not think that is the case as the structure and surfaces seem very ok to me.
The dirpping water problem is an important problem given that the equipment may be unattended for some time in the summer house, covering the entire floor in water swelling the floor.
Any quick fixes you might suggest?

Yep, the drain hose from the fridge to the tray on top of the compressor is blocked.
At the rear of the fridge where the ice forms, when it defrosts it runs down in to a channel then via the hose/duct to the tray on the compressor to evaporate. If the hose/duct is blocked, the channel overflows, hence the water under the salad bins and then runs down via the door seals on to the floor.
Check that again, I know you said it had been, but I think it may solve your problem 😀

Thanks Dave I’ll get someone else to look at it.
