ParticipantMy washer has stopped spinning. This last happened about 6 years ago and was eventually cured by fitting a new “motor run” capacitor.
The one I’ve just removed is a 0.47uf 240v one.
I don’t know if this is exactly the same specification as the original one or was just a close match.
I’ve been trying to locate one with the above value but it appears neither Maplins or RS stock them.Q1) is the value correct compared with the original manufacturer’s specification?
Q2) Can I fit one with a higher value?
Q3) Recomended off the shelf supplier?February 20, 2014 at 6:10 pm #409965JBHarrison

Sorry about the first post on this one – would like to delete it but can’t. Memory playing tricks I think.
A couple of weeks back this stopped spinning or to be precise rotating in any way. It will fill and drain and work its way through the program but no drum movement.
Well mostly.
I put it back in place and plugged it in and yes the drum started to rotate. Thinking it ok and switched it off. Loaded it up and …… no drum movement again.
What’s going on?Just read a few posts but not really found an answer.
More detail.The heater works.
The timer clock ticks, rotates and occasionally clicks. Sometimes has stuck a bit in the past but I was advised to just rotate it a good few times when switched off to clean up the contacts.
I’ve occasionally heard a “crack” like a capacitor discharging (Duff wire somewhere?)!!!!!
Did a quick check to see if and wires were loose. Nothing obvious.
Mostly using setting 5.
Oh and it does make the usual rhymithical noises like it’s supposed to be rotating and gearing up to spin, but no more.Hope that helps.

I dont think this model uses a run capacitor. most likely
THESE are what you requireFebruary 20, 2014 at 7:25 pm #409967JBHarrison

I eventually realised my cap reference was totally wrong but can’t delete that part of the post.
Thank you for suggesting that but I checked the brushes the other day and they’re looking good and 0.75″ or more long.
As the drum rotated briefly till I switched it off this afternoon, I’m suspecting a wire. Maybe physically moving it has something to do with that.
All it’s done for the last hour if fill rest, drain and make normal noises. No rotation.February 21, 2014 at 10:10 am #409968JBHarrison

Just stripped it down again and checked the brushes. One brush was absolutely fine. However the other which I must not have checked was jammed up and presumably not or intermittently bearing on the spindle. Ordered a new set, hopefully that will fix it.
