hotpoint aquarius dishwasher

my dishwasher runs through the programme on the timer but doesn’t wash and sticks at the final 2 minutes – gets stuck and doesn’t move on. It sounds as if it keeps trying to do something like drain. When I open up there is some water left in the bottom, nothing hs been cleaned- it is just as it was when put in. My biggest problem is that it does not show a code- just keeps trying to do something. I have checked the water inlet and that seems fine. Finally- it DID drain once when I switched it off but when I next set the programme the same thing repeated. Any idea what it is or how I can get a code to flash up?
