Following on from my previous mixed message post.
I’ve now replaced the brushes but all I’m getting is a humming noise – possibly from the motor.
I daren’t leave it on too long as previously it would just click on, the prog control start and begin the cycle.
Is it possible that I have accidentally reversed the wires leading to the brushes and caused the problem as described?
Had the motor off the brackets for full access to brush holders so it may have been upside down when I re-connected. Stupid thing to do perhaps.

Is this a Whirlpool by any chance?

Yes it is. Fairly old, but has quite light usage so I’d like to keep it going if I can.
Ex wife is very helpful but better if I can do my own washing.
Have I messed up and it’s now trying to rotate backwards !!!

I don’t think it is possible to put the motor connector plug in the wrong way. I doubt the humming noise is coming from there. Could be the pump maybe, get in closer to find out.

    Oppps !
Just realised washers work better with water. All fine now.
My thanks for your help though, hope I didn’t waste too much time with that one.?
