Keymaster👿 👿 well i have been messed about by comet and lg for over a 12 month today and i am still no better off with this fridge/freezer i don’t recommend no buy a warrantee from comet for one reason comet’s warrantee has no values and Lg you can never get trough and they will always tell you to go back to comet i have a problem with the door on the freezer when the bottom door shuts the top one opens and stays open. and with this fault i keep losing food i have lost about £160 in food losses trough the door on the freezer compartment staying open up to now and all comet want to do is keep paying us out and no one wants to take responsibility for it they sent expert appliance out who have written it off after the repair failed but here comes the tricky bit no report off expert appliance in less i pay for it and they can’t fix it they have made it worse .i have had about 6 visits from Comet and three visits from expert appliance and LG after care service is 0 rated for messing me about so i have to take court action to recover my loss of about £330 + the warrantee of no value to me i just want to say is be very careful when buying a warrantee and don’t expect to get the item replaced because you get nothing but a headache from phoning and wasting your money like i have done
here is the link to the freezer that i am having trouble with don’t buy it you will be disappointed.and fed up with one big headache this an email from Lg PLUS i have tried to phone them on all day yesterday and today with the numbers i have been given and i have failed to get thorough.
email off them
Thank you for your email. As advised in an earlier e-mail, Comet have bought out warranties on all the products they sell. We therefore advise you to deal with them direct regarding this issue as the warranty is with them and not LG. UK HelpdeskFebruary 15, 2005 at 9:40 pm #126227Dave_Conway

LG are correct in what they say as far as the guarantee goes.
It works like this, Comet want extra x{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} discount from the manufacturer and they also want to keep all their customers “in house” so they strike a deal and get money knocked off the buying price and cover all of the warranty themselves, it’s not just LG either.
Also, as they are the retailer, they are 100{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} responsible as your contract is with them irrespective of who carries out any in-guarantee work.
Who asked Expert to inspect in the first place? If you did this off your own back then you are liable to pay them, if Comet asked them to attend on their behalf then they are and Expert should submit their report to whoever requested the visit.
If all this occured after the initial 12 months guarantee then it’s a different ball game as it them becomes an extended warranty which is essentially an insurance policy and the exchange rules etc all change, even if it’s written off Comet may only be liable to give you a refund on your policy cost or less in some cases. Read the smallprint on the policy document.
Hope this throws some light on it for you.
Dave.

KeymasterRe: LG REFRIGERATOR GRT452GVA
hi thanks for the reply the problem all started last July when we lost our first loss of £86.36
comet came out to inspect it and they said the freezer door was at fault and the seal on the top door needed changing which, I have in a report left by the engineer stating the door seal needs changing but when the engineer reported back to the service center it all went quiet for a week or two and then I phoned up comet to find out what and why the engineer did not come back as stating on the fault report but then i found out they are classing it a manufacture specification and no repair was made so i made my complaint to LG and they put me in touch with expert appliance who came out on three times to view the fault and they also said it was faulty but when they returned to there service department they same excuse was made its a manufacture specification and it can’t be repaired so here come’s the next step we lost another load of food about a three weeks ago because the door on the freezer stayed open once again and the ice had melted and cracked the ice cube box so the food was unfit for human consuming so I complained again to expert appliance who came out last Friday and put a new seal on the freezer and the food loss was vi wed a week before and it was sighed by expert appliance by them in person and the fault was to stay even with a new seal being replaced and its worse since they have repaired it so we can’t use the top freezer at all due to the fault because all comet want to do is keep paying us out food claims but its not solving the problem that i have ,we have an extended warrantee with comet for the next 2 years so i do hope if they don’t change this heap of crap they will continue to pay up every time it fails and as for LG i will never in my life buy any of Lg products for as long as i live because there after sales service is crap and they should never sell there products to comet with out warrantees because it make’s there product look all crap and if it was under LG it would be a different matter but i will have the last laugh i am going to peruse this trough court and i will never throw in the white flag and till i have my say and i will let the courts decide my fate ,any one what there say about by problem please leave there our message’s they will be appreciatedFebruary 16, 2005 at 12:46 am #126229Penguin45

Kezia,
I’ve read this thread several times and admit that I am slightly puzzled. If you know that one door opens when you shut the other, why on earth don’t you check that both doors are shut? Should only take a second.Dave Conway’s post explained the situation with regards to the Comet guarantee position. A certain amount of cost is factored into the sale price of any appliance to cover warranty issues. By removing that cost, Comet assume all liability for claims in the guarantee period. Presumably they think that they can cover claims for less than LG built in cost. This means that it is nothing to do with LG and is a choice that Comet have made.
There are plenty of refrigeration engineers posting on this site, it may well be a known problem amongst them, so possibly a solution may follow.
In the last resort, contact Comet plc in Hull and lodge a Head Office Complaint. This will put the fear of God into the Service Centre – results ALWAYS ensue. Do this in writing and keep a copy.

KeymasterRe: LG REFRIGERATOR GRT452GVA
the normal cause of this problemis that the appliance is tilting slightly forward and that you are pushing and letting the door close with more force than needed thus forcing air from the fridge compartment back into the freezer compartment therefore the door will open in the freezer.
the way this and most frost free fridge/freezers work is as follows.
the freezer compartment has the actual components to make the appliance cold, the freezer is conected to the fridge via air channels,as the freezer gets cold a fan blows air at a low flow into the fridge compartment through vents at the back or top of the fridge and draws it back into the freezer at the duct at the bottom of the fridge thus making the fridge cold, when the correct temp is reached in the fridge the air channel closes.
hope this helps

Keymasterhi Penguin45 basically its like this we have children and one is in the autistic spectrum he is
in and out of the fridge all day its very had to keep watching over him even when we are all having food and sat down because he don’t understand that the door needs to be checked and part from that when other family use the freezer people forget to check the door is shut ,question two everything has been tried even tilting it back the feet are on its last treads basically the door should not open in the first place because on top of the problem i am losing energy trough the door just opening and it stay’s open the design is crap and even the cheap ones do not have this problem you don’t buy a product to watch over it 24 7 days a week we never had this problem from any other freezer we have had over the years and i would think twice in buying another frost free freezer with this problem with the door opening when the bottom one is shut .i have checked all the freezer’s in comet and its the only one that i could find that done thisFebruary 23, 2005 at 7:30 pm #126232admin
Keymastercrap Company not so under standing People
Dear Ms m
We apologise, we do not mean to waste your time, but your product is not covered by LG Electronics. When Comet
purchase products from us to supply to end users like yourself, they purchase these items at a discount on the
understanding that the products are being sold with a ‘bought out’ guarantee. This means that Comet offer their own
warranty on all LG products the sell. We really must refer yout o Comet in order to discuss this situation further.Yours sincerely
LG Electronics Helpdesk
New quote LG have no compassion for its customers and if you buy from a company like comet you stand no chance in getting satisfaction and you stand to lose your money because they buy without any warrantee just because all they want to do is keep repairing it, don’t buy an extended warrantee look else where, and look for one that will replace it when it all fails

ParticipantHi, I have a LG GRP207TQ and the problem is that the fridge and freezer both get cold but not cold enough. The freezer is a little bit colder than the fridge but does not freeze. I have had the computer board on top replaced and the sensor in the door replaced oh! the motor was also replaced too. Has anyone any ideas.
