ParticipantAre we going back down the road of very poor quality pattern spares that I had encountered in the 70/80s,If memory serves me right the Chinese had not got a foot hold in the spares market then but they sure are making up for lost time now!
I have been the subject this week of fan oven elements that develop earth faults once hot,and I have even tried different suppliers and different elements.

Problem possibly due to dampness, if elements are open to the atmosphere and stored in that way they absorb moisture which is mostly the cause of that problem.
I have in the past had these faults and taken elements back to workshop and run without earth for 20 minutes and the earth fault disappears as the elements dry out, even if they are delivered sealed you don’t know where they were sealed in the bag, perhaps already with moisture in, factory, distributors wholesalers if it comes in a pattern companies own bag or box it’s likely they were delivered to them loose and then packaged.
If you don’t fancy connecting up without earth stick them in your oven for 30 minutes and see if it reduces the earth reading.February 28, 2014 at 4:53 pm #410468Martin

I wonder if someone could ask the question of Connect, Masterpart AND Qualtex at the White Goods Meeting……….. “where the hell do you source these lousy elements?” Have a can of bullshit spray handy for their respective replies! 😉

Fitted a genuine Beko fan element yesterday. Got a call 2 hours later to say it had gone bang. So its not just the pattern stuff that failing. I have had major problems with Whirlpool and Bosch pattern elements over the past year though.

I have had no problems with Connect pattern elements.
Sometimes elements can absorb moisture but work fine if you dry them out.
I had one recently that needed Drying out but was OK after.
With all the wet weather they can get damp stored on the van.

Worst elements I have for failing are the Electrolux wide bracket one. I only fit genuine but don’t last long. Got one customer that’s had 4 in 18 months. Have changed stat and fan motor as well but still don’t last

been lucky so far. but have noticed recently hotpoint beko and smeg OEM elements have different suppliers to there usual respective ones. always worth using the EGO or irca patterns if they are available. Trialling Qtx’s new EGO pattern brittania elements at the mo to see how they fair, would have been a money spinner but bit late in the day as since GDHA have bagged them all of a sudden britannia spares are 2/3rds the price they used to be lol.

The original motors seem slow and grease build up / age seems to slow them further causing the elements to overheat and become damaged.
I have found that fitting new motor with the element sorts this issue . I have also adapted a Hotpoint (mtr8001) by creating legs on the motor with nuts and bolts. this reduce costs for the customer, this also increase the original fan speed so will last longer before the motor slowing causes any issues.
i have had no problems to date with this method. Always important to check that the motor will fit correctly and safely.
Also used this method on other makes including baumatic.
alo use the same methord in
