ParticipantCan anyone tell me if Sainsbury’s own brand detergents are as good as the top brands with continued use? I have used them and can’t tell the difference with coloured clothing and the liquid seems to have more enzymes than Daz or Bold for a example. I can’t stand green box Ariel at all, gives me a migraine as I am sensitive to synthetic fragrance.
I believe Mcbride make a lot own brand so the quality must be good if its made by the makers of Surcare?
I would hate to do damage to my new machine by using the wrong or inferior product.

Sainsburys detergents came 5th overall in the Which? Magazine survey. Aldi scored far higher (2nd) and far cheaper. 😉

Do you personally use own brand detergentd Martin? I personally cant see what harm unbranded doed as long as you do a wash with bleach detergent at 60C once a week.

Yes, Almat, cheap as chips, does the job. My machine is spotless too. 😀

Next time im near an Aldi ill get some then.
Martin, are you an appliance engineer? The way I see it is some recommend a brand because they get commission. I know I am cynical but I can’t say Ariel is that great at cleaning plus it stinks 😀

Yes to the first part. As for the latter, if I can figure a way of getting commission from flogging Almat then I’m up for it. 😀

It cleans great but I do agree the perfume is very off putting for many including my household. I had boxes of free samples of Ariel a few years back that lasted me many months I got truly sick of the perfume pong to a point where I never wish to smell it again….. Yuck!

Well I am reassured using non branded then if you use it. I guess a lot of it is the types of format and how hot you wash and whether you give the machine a service wash. I do 60C once a week with Asda biological powder and never get smells or bacteria build up.
I actually emailed Bosch and they said using own brand detergent was fine providing its low sudsing.
I also don’t use Persil/Ariel though for ethical reasons but that’s another debate lol.
