ParticipantHi,
My washing machine, Ariston “Margherita 2000” (“AB 95”), which I have had for many years, started to make much more noise during spin cycles than before, including some banging/clanging noises, like hard stuff bouncing against metal. I’ve tried checking all parts I can.
The machine stands firmly and evenly on the ground. I think the noises are coming from inside the outer drum, because I can’t see anything outside moving around that much that they would touch other parts.
The only thing I could find that is probably not normal, is that I can move the front of the inner drum sideways in some directions. Next to one of the three drum paddles, the drum remains firmly in place even when i press on it sideways. The opposite position, about 180 degrees from this, also sits firm. But in the other direction, 90 degrees from this (not quite matching the other paddles), I can wiggle the drum back and forth quite a bit. These points around the circle move along with the drum when I rotate the drum, i.e they are fixed to the inner drum and not the the outer shell.
After I wiggle the drum sideways, it seems to return to its usual center position. But I guess this can cause the inner drum to wobble when rotating at high speed.
There are no noises when I rotate the drum by hand. There is no more resistance to rotating than normal. The wheel on the back where the drive belt sits does not wobble.
Is it possible to tell, from these symptoms, what part is broken?

A full model number would help but it is almost certain that the inner drum support has broken, in which case it will be BER.

The numbers I mentioned were the most prominent numbers present. Some other numbers are: “Type Number LB 2000 C”, “S/N 012050115”, “46237810100”.
What is “BER”?

None of those numbers relate to an actual model number?
BER= Beyond economic repair.

All those numbers are on the plate on the back of the machine. Other than those, I only see things like “220-230V”, “Made in Italy”, and so on. If none of them are valid model numbers, then I don’t know what to look for. It doesn’t specifically say “Model number” anywhere. (But isn’t “Type number” close?) And I haven’t found any other plates. What should it look like?
There is a big bar code on the plate too, next to the word “LINEA-1”, but I can’t read the code without a bar code reader.
Anyway, thanks for the diagnosis. Sorry to hear there is nothing to do.

Type number is rarely a model number and I have tried every combination I can to extract a commercial code from the second long number without success. 🙁
Is it a washer dryer?
Most customers are often way out when it comes to the age of their machine but roughly how old do you think it might be?

It was bought 2001, I think.
But not in the UK.
Just a washing machine, no dryer.March 13, 2014 at 12:03 pm #411110iadom
