ParticipantBrowsed this forum and found this to be a common problem with this oven. However, despite 4 new elements, a new thermostat and a once over from an electrician to make sure it’s not the power to it overloading it we still can’t get this oven to work for more than a few months before it pops. Just wondered (apart from a new oven) what people could suggest? Cheers. Top oven still working thank goodness!

depends on the elements you are fitting
I gave up fitting pattern elements to this unit a long time ago after I watched an element fail while i was having a brew while testing it
also if you have had element fitted then there should be a guarentee but in any case
use gen element part number 494643 and it should last longer

Beware the danger of typing that part number on Google though as you end up on sites such as Amazon and eBay flogging cheap pattern ‘equivalents’. The link to the genuine thing is HERE
In my experience I have to say that even the genuine Bosch replacement is also less than reliable. The overall design of these horseshoe (half moon ) shaped elements is fundamentally poor. I believe the issue is in the preformed shape in relation to its small (short) size and heat distribution throughout its length is poor in the extreme IMHO. 😉

Cheers. Does this mean if I have another Bosch it’s likely to have the same problem? I’m researching getting a whole new one just in case a genuine replacement part doesn’t do the trick. Will ask my repairer to ensure he uses this part next time!

it seems this type of element is not as reliable as other bosch parts and i dont think they use this one now (unless someone else knows more)
so new bosch items should be ok (and carry 2 years guarentee)this also includes neff and siemans

What happened here? Was problem solved? We have Hbn7022 FD8405 which also has started blowing fan oven elements, both genuine and two different pattern makes. Oven works perfectly, fan goes round well but most recent (pattern) element has lasted 2 months. It just blows part way through cooking. Two repair companies who sell me the elements cannot think of a reason other than fan not working but it goes round fast, without making a noise, or catching anywhere.
One basic question though because, before the problem I didn’t really get on knees to check, does element normally glow red until thermostat clicks off?

We’ve been using Electruepart elements and the latest one has failed after 2 months. Their packaging says ‘Quality guaranteed’ and I emailed them to ask what that meant but haven’t had a reply.

I think 2 months use for one of these elements is quality indeed 😈
You won’t be surprised to know then that Bosch and Neff no longer manufacture ovens using the infamous ‘half moon’ element. All their fan ovens today have reverted to the more reliable circular type. No reason has been given and that fact says it all.

But the grill elements in their small built in ovens are still pants. 😥
