ParticipantI’ve just been to a Hoover VHD 842 washing machine to change a drum paddle.Trouble is the single screw is offset to the front of the sump hose and i cant see a vent hose at the top of the drum to get access to the screw. I’m wondering if i should snap off the old paddle and refit the new one simply by snapping into place?
It’s 3 years old and has a welded tub.March 24, 2014 at 6:29 pm #411486Criscold

Thanks Colin for the info.Only Hoover/Candy could engineer a paddle which is fixed with a screw you cant access(well maybe others). The solution is to remove the top tub weight and drill a 35mm hole in the tub right behind the plastic weld line.I used my cupboard door router which I use to fit hinges. The paddle screw is still slightly offset but you can remove it carefully using bluetack on the screwdriver. You can then fit the plastic disc that you drilled out back to the tub with a hot-glue gun.Job sorted.

Why didn’t you just remove the sump hose to access it?

As I wrote in the first place, on this model the screw is totally inaccessible from the sump hose.I think the diameter of the hose is smaller than the one in the picture and the screw is 2″ offset. There is simply no way of getting a driver on the head. This machine is an 8kg model which may explain the difference in design!

As Martin has pointed out in picture this is the way Hoover do it and you can get a Torx screwdriver on it or just snap off paddle and remove screw and just use the tab to hold paddle in place

Can’t get screwdriver in as it’s 2 in away from sump hose hole
