KeymasterCan anyone help? Our Zanussi Jetsystem washer dryer (WJD1667w) starts a wash normally but after about 5mins skips to the last 3 minutes of the wash programme to the end of the spin and drain. At the beginning it flushes through the prewash and the main wash compartments, but when the main wash cycle begins it skips to the end of the spin cycle. I can get it to do the whole spin cycle if I start the programme again and skip manually to the spin which gives the whole 12 mins and it spins normally.
I’ve heard about the software being able to check itself – could I do this?
Urgent please as we have two kids under two!!!!
Thanks – Kevin

Kevin,
It’s usually a water level control system failure. I assume you have checked the drain filter? If that is the case and it still gives problems, you need to get an engineer in to clean and service the machine. Check our repairs@ for a company in your area 😉

Thanks Martin
I’ve checked all the inlet and outlet filters. Sucked and blown the outlet pipe. All seem to be fine. It does look like I might need to call an engineer out. I’ve checked the repairs@ but no service company comes up. My post code is NG2 – can you recommend anyone? Should I go with Zanussi/Service Force or should I go with an independent?
thanks

Hi Kevin,
You could try, 01777 870487 Roy Waring South Ltd, who is also a DASA member. Service Force is a good choice as most all the agents are very good at what they do also.
Hope that helps.

After using the diagnostic programme, it appears that the machine has an error code of E85 – can anyone tell me what this means?

E85 is an electronic malfunction on the main PCB I’m afraid.
Engineer time Kevin 😉

E85 USUALLY ENTAILS THE RECIRCULATION PUMP OVERHEATING CAUSING THE MAIN PCB TO BLOW.check recirc pump first or you might incurr paying for 2 pcb’s. :

Thanks Johnboy,
sorry for the obvious question , but how can I check the recirculation pump?I’ve got a local engineer coming, but he doesn’t sound very confident about fixing it after I described it to him.

You’re engineer will be able to check this easily enough, point him in that direction first though to make sure it’s tested before condemning the pcb.

Dave
good advice – thanks everyone – I feel much better knowing something, and feel more confident dealing with any engineer coming to fix it.
Thanks

Latest update:
I contacted a friendly engineer who was very helpful and sold me a recirculation pump. I fitted the replacement pump, and found the original was burnt out with bubbles of laquer from the windings showing. Afterwards there was no change in the E85 error, and the same problem exists – hence I suppose the PCB controlling the recirculation pump is kaput.
Got local engineer to come in – but he can’t do anything as he doesn’t know the Zanussi error codes, very helpful and nice bloke, but can’t do much more than me because Zanussi won’t let anyone else fix it except themselves.
Rang up Service Force – they charge £50 straight off for coming then the PCB will cost £70 to £140 and then add on VAT. All for a machine they made and broke down 2 and half years later!! Andif they can’t fixit, they charge £43 + vat just for the fun of it!!
For all that money (don’t foget I paid £24 for a new pump), £150-250, I could buy a second hand machine!
Any ideas to what I do next? Can I buy a PCB and fix it myself? Can I get the information about my washing machine to fix it? Can I get compensation from Zanussi from the small claims court for selling a machine that is ‘not fit for purpose’??

Kevin,
Sorry to hear it’s dragging on……Firstly, may I suggest that you contact your original engineer and tell him to sign up to UKWhitegoods? The trade side of the site will no doubt expand his knowledge considerably.
Secondly, it is a common problem with all digital appliances that a component failure, especially something like a burnt out pump or heater, can “flash back” and damage the computer board. Both Whirlpool and Hotpoint appliances are famous for knocking out the control board if the door lock fails as a for instance.
Thirdly, and unfortunately, the machine is well out of its mandatory guarantee period, so the fit for purpose arguement will hold little water. A major failure within a few weeks or months after the guarantee period is often viewed sympathetically, but 2.5 years won’t be.
So choices……. The machine you have is basically quite a decent mid-range appliance, and you have been unlucky in what has happened. The mechanics of the machine should be good for at least another 3-4 years, so investing £150 in the appliance over that time is not such a big deal. Or, you start again with a replacement. Bear in mind that you get what you pay for, and most of us (even we engineers) can’t afford the perfection of Meile. Personally, I like Bosch – decent value for money and good specs; 2 year warranty is attractive to many. However, when the brushes in the motor wear out (3-4 years with family use), if you don’t catch it early………… It blows the computer board. 🙁
Bit of food for thought, I hope it’s some help.
Regards,

Hi
Had same fault on an Electrolux (same breed) yesterday.
Pump blown appliance doing nothing, only locking the door.
Changed PCB all done. Luckily was a Coverplan job so customer was relieved.
Board isnt too bad to fit; only problem is that the majority of the PCBs come uncoded and you will need the coding sheet to tell it what machine its being fitted to.
Last two PCBs I’ve fitted have thankfully come coded 🙂regards
Greg
